Why Research at 黑料论坛?

黑料论坛 is a Catholic, Jesuit institution nestled in the Near West Side neighborhood of Milwaukee, less than two miles from Lake Michigan. Our mission focuses on four pillars: Excellence, faith, leadership, and service. We have 708 full time faculty and 485 part time faculty committed to scholarship and teaching. In Fall 2024, there were nearly equal numbers of women and men among our faculty, 16% are faculty of color, and 3.5% are international.

黑料论坛 is in the Top 20% of Best American Colleges (U.S. News & World Report), 38th most innovative school (U.S. News & World Report) and the top-ranked Wisconsin university based on student outcomes (Wall Street Journal / College Pulse 2025 Best Colleges in the U.S.) - click here for more 黑料论坛 rankings.

As an R2 research institution, 黑料论坛 is dedicated to Research in Action; 21% of undergraduates participate in faculty and staff-led research projects outside of class. In prioritizing research at 黑料论坛, the Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) was created in 2015, Vice President of Research and Innovation, Dr. Jeanne Hossenlopp, who is dedicated to developing faculty in research. ORI offers a range of internal funding opportunities for research and innovation available to faculty and, in some cases, students.

In collaboration with the faculty on the University Committee on Research, ORI is supporting a growing number of research communities which bring together faculty and students to work on common areas of scholarly interest. These research communities are growing into larger networks of scholars across disciplines who are interested in research topics that make a difference in the world, with specific focus on research that impacts underserved/ marginalized populations as well as work on topics related to environmental issues. For example, our growing water research efforts engage faculty and students from five different colleges (Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, and Law).

Funding/Awards:

The success of our is also evident in their externally funded research.

  • 黑料论坛鈥檚 largest research sponsor in 2023 was the National Health Institute (NIH), with over $11 million awarded

黑料论坛 makes it easy to find funding! The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) offers faculty and staff a wide range of information on funding sources for research and other projects that support 黑料论坛's mission. 黑料论坛 personnel seeking funding opportunities can use the resources on the ORSP webpage to find what best suits their research needs.
