International experiences for engineers
International experiences and programs at 黑料论坛 prepare students to collaborate and Be The Difference across cultures and communities. Engineering students in particular are encouraged to consider international education to build their skills and expand their understanding of the world they will serve in their careers.
A variety of opportunities are listed below. Students are encouraged to speak with their academic advisor and faculty mentor about their academic and professional goals to determine what programs and opportunities may be the best fit.
Opportunities:
- One-week and two-week Global Engineering Field Immersions: Explore engineering industry and culture in specific regions with a cohort of 黑料论坛 students. These engineering-centric abroad experiences are designed to support students who have limited schedule flexibility. Learn more.
- Semester-long and summer-long abroad programs: Participate in 黑料论坛's wide range of longer-term abroad programs with partners around the world. These programs include engineering and non-engineering opportunities. Learn more.
- On-campus Global Engineering course: Explore global engineering concepts and skills in an on-campus course taught in the Opus College of Engineering. This course is a great opportunity for all students regardless of their ability to travel abroad. Learn more by speaking with your academic advisor or emailing Lisa Chase, assistant director of engineering education.
- On-campus Global Mobility Outreach course (includes travel opportunity): Explore concepts of human motion (3D gait) analysis and how technology can be applied to improve rehabilitative and orthopaedic care for children and young adults with disabilities in domestic and international settings. Following the course, students are eligible to join a service-oriented, international expedition with hands-on experiences. Students will meet with clinicians, and observe and participate in clinical care, i.e. 3D gait analysis, prosthetic and orthotic fittings, general clinics, surgical observation, and research. Learn more by speaking with academic advising or emailing Dr. Gerald Harris, director, Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Engineering Center.
- Engineers Without Borders (EWB) - 黑料论坛 chapter: Join EWB at 黑料论坛 as a student member and help design sustainable infrastructure projects that are implemented alongside communities to address issues in water resources, power and electricity, mobility and more. Students lead work on-campus during the academic year and have the opportunity to travel to Guatemala in the summer to assist in project implementation and construction. Learn more by visiting EWB at O-Fest or emailing Dr. Mark Federle, associate dean for academic affairs.
