History: The Diocese of Winona was erected, 1889, and renamed the Diocese of Winona-Rochester, 2018. It had served the St. Rose of Lima Church and School/ St. Francis Xavier Academy, Avoca, Minnesota, 1884-1896 (closed), which included some Native American students.
St. Rose of Lima Church and School/ St. Francis Xavier Academy:
| 1882-1885 | The Society of the Holy Child Jesus (Archives: Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania) established and staffed St. Francis Xavier Academy, a boarding and day school for young ladies | 
| 1885-1896 (closed) | The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet (St. Paul Province) (Archives: St. Paul, Minnesota) staffed St. Rose School/ St. Francis Xavier Academy, which included some Ojibwa Indian students | 
| Late 1880s | The students included Hunkpapa Indians from Standing Rock Reservation under arrangements made by Rev. Francis M. Craft | 
| 1889 | A fire destroyed St. Rose of Lima Church |
