Advanced Financial Management
Professor Arena鈥檚 research focuses on how litigation risk affects corporate finance, law, and governance. Arena鈥檚 work examines how litigation shapes financial policies such as cash holdings, payout policy, capital structure, and investment, and quantifies both direct and indirect costs for shareholders, particularly in M&A activity and deal outcomes. Additional interests include the governance role of boards and outside directors in contested transactions, as well as the effects of tax policy reforms and the relationship between litigation risk and corporate tax avoidance. Across these areas, Arena鈥檚 research is marked by rigorous empirical analysis and a focus on how legal and regulatory environments influence firm value and risk management.
